The Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) announced on July 24 that it, along with allied forces, has captured Mogok, a renowned ruby-producing town in Myanmar’s Mandalay Region, after nearly a month of intense combat with military junta forces.
Upon their arrival, the TNLA and allied troops were greeted by residents with Eugenia leaves, a traditional symbol of victory in Myanmar. A TNLA member shared images of their entry and reception on Facebook this evening, noting that the gesture was meant to reassure those away from Mogok who have been unable to contact their families due to the ongoing conflict.
Fighting in Mogok had been ongoing almost daily since June 25. Following a month of offensive, TNLA and its allies have taken full control of the town.
Mogok is the second town seized by the TNLA in the second wave of Operation 1027, following the capture of Nawnghkio (Naung Cho) on July 10. The military junta has cut off mobile phone and internet communications in Mogok since July 19.
