The Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) announced that it had captured all remaining military junta bases in Mongmit Township, northern Shan State, at 11:00 a.m. on July 31, subsequently occupying the entire township.
TNLA spokesperson Lway Yay Oo confirmed on the night of July 31 that Mongmit is fully secured following the capture of all military junta bases in the area, including the No. 21 Military Operation Command (MOC-21) headquarters, the 348th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB-348), and the 223rd and 276th Infantry Battalions (IB 223 and 276).
The offensive against Mongmit began on July 3, with the TNLA and allied forces capturing military junta bases around Mongmit town and taking control of the town on July 16. They have since besieged and attacked the tactical base two miles south of the town. During the clashes at the tactical base and Doe Pin village on July 31, the military junta used Y-12 aircraft to drop 59 bombs.
The TNLA has designated Mongmit as the territory of Ta'ang State Brigade 3. With a population of more than 67,000 residents, Mongmit, situated on the Mongmit-Bhamo Road, holds significant military importance due to its borders with Pyin Oo Lwin District in Mandalay Region, the Palaung Self-Administered Zone in northern Shan State, and Bhamo District in Kachin State.
In addition to Mongmit, continuous fighting is taking place between military junta forces and TNLA forces in Naung Cho (Nawnghkio) and Kyaukme townships. The TNLA has previously secured Mogok, which is next to Mongmit, and Namtu, which is on the east of Mongmit, is also under its rule.
Over the course of 36 days of renewed fighting during the second phase of Operation 1027, the TNLA reported that 133 civilians were killed, 170 injured, and 105 monasteries, schools, and homes were damaged due to the junta's aerial and artillery attacks.
