On July 28, three military vessels transporting items belonging to Chinese mining company Wanbao and military equipment arrived in Monywa, Sagaing, where revolutionary forces are strongest in central Myanmar. The vessels, consisting of one flat ship and two military vessels, traveled up the Chindwin River and fired artillery shells indiscriminately at villages along the riverbank.
A local resident reported that civilians from the villages along the river had to temporarily seek shelter to avoid the shelling. While noting that the coup military opened fire along the river as they usually do, he said that the impact on civilians and the extent of damage were not known yet.
Monywa, in the Sagaing Region, is recognized for its robust resistance presence and is at the forefront of the public protests and strikes against the military dictatorship in central Myanmar.
