The United States urged to release Rev. Dr. Hkalam Sam Son.
The United States, together with the international community, condemned the imprisonment of Rev. Dr. Hkalam Sam Son , the adviser of the Kachin Baptist Christian Federation (KBC). The U.S. State Department issued a statement on April 17th requesting to release him immediately.

Rev. Dr. Hkalam Sam Son., who was detained in Myitkyina Prison, was sentenced to two years in prison for Section 17 (1) of the unlawful association act. 1 year in prison for Section 505 (ka). 3 years in prison for Section 52 (ka) of the anti-Terrorism act; a total of six years in prison was imposed on April 7th.
He is also a prominent and respected religious leader. The statement also stated that Rev. Dr. Hkalam Sam Son was targeted by the Myanmar military council for his courageous actions, including advocating for freedom of religion or belief.
It is also said that he is also the one delivering peace act, working to achieve equality and justice with Kachin Christians throughout Myanmar and also working to ensure that more than 100,000 Kachin civil war refugees can return home safely,
The US State Department said in a statement that it urges the military council to end the violence towards religious practitioners in Myanmar and to stop oppressing communities and churches.
