The Rohingya are demanding to return to their homes as soon as possible and to be recognized as citizens.

At the 6th-anniversary commemoration ceremony of the Rohingya genocide held at the Cox's Bazar refugee camp in Bangladesh, they requested to return to their homes as soon as possible and to recognize them as an ethnic group. Ko Aung Myaing, who participated in the memorial ceremony at the Cox's Bazar refugee camp, said that all Rohingyas want to return to their homes. "We are not coming to stay here forever, we don't want to stay in Bangladesh at all, we want a safe and dignified return home as soon as possible. Refugees are not ok with food and jobs here."

On August 25, the Cox's Bazar refugee camp, where more than a million Rohingya refugees live, celebrated the 6th anniversary of the genocide, when the Rohingya fled to Bangladesh due to the Myanmar army's land clearance operations in 2017.

At that ceremony, they requested that to return home as soon as possible, the right to stay in their original places, ensure safety and dignity, the recognition of the Rohingya as an ethnic group, and effective international assistance including the United Nations for their return to their homeland.

National Unity Government ministers, Rohingya activists, and political activists also celebrated the 6th anniversary of the Rohingya genocide online.

U Aung Myo Min, the Minister of Human Rights, NUG said that the NUG is making plans regarding the Rohingyas, including the return of the Rohingyas. "The NUG government is doing a lot of cooperation, preparation, and forethought for Rohingya to return to their homes, live in peace, and live with dignity in their homes." U Aung Myo Min also said that they are working to create an environment for safety and secure repatriation and that they are trying to bring justice and punish the guilty.

More than 300 civil society organizations, including the Progressive Voice Group, have called to end impunity for the serious crimes committed by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya in 2017, for the return of Rohingya rights and citizenship and they will stand with the Rohingya to seek justice and accountability for the victims and survivors of the Rohingya genocide that happened six years ago. As the NUG government, the Rohingyas must be fully restored to their citizenship and rights and request the Bangladesh government and relevant agencies to immediately stop the Rohingya repatriation project by the military council.
