The military council objected to ASEAN leaders’ review and decision on the Myanmar issue.
On September 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council stated that it objected to the ASEAN leaders' review and decision on the implementation of the five ASEAN Common Agreements and warned again not to interfere in the internal affairs of member countries. The military council said that they objected to the ASEAN leaders' review and decision because of the negative reviews and one-sided and unfair decisions.
After the (43rd) meeting of the ASEAN Coordination Council and the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held on September 4, the military council issued this objection to ASEAN's review and decision. ASEAN's statement included eight observations and ten resolutions, strongly condemning the ongoing violence in Myanmar and assigning the 2026 ASEAN rotating chairmanship to the Philippines.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council, it is accused that Indonesia, which is the rotating chairman of ASEAN, has discussed and negotiated the draft statement with Myanmar, but ignored Myanmar's views and position. The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council states that the ASEAN member states are further informed not to interfere in the internal affairs of member countries.
ASEAN leaders are attending the ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta, Indonesia from September 5th to 7th.
