The military council announced that more than 3,000 prisoners would be released on Myanmar New Year's Day
Today, April 17, the military council announced that 3015 prisoners will be released from prisons nationwide on the first day of Myanmar New Year's Day. According to Section 401 Sub-section 1 of the Criminal Procedure Law, all prisoners will be released from prison with the comment that if they commit the crime again, they will continue to serve the remaining punishment in addition to that punishment.
In addition, 98 foreign prisoners serving sentences in various prisons were released with reduced sentences and deported, according to the military council's statement.
After the military dictatorship in February of 2021, the military council released at least 9 people on the national important days.
A total of 59,629 prisoners have been released during the 2-year period of the military coup, which is more than 60,000.
According to statements by the military council, only a few political prisoners and those who resisted the military coup were included in the release by the military council.
