Ten thousand acres of rainfed rice have been destroyed in Rakhine and Mon states due to floods.
Local farmers say that tens of thousands of acres of rainfed paddy fields have been destroyed in Mon State and Rakhine State, which faced floods due to continuous rains at the end of July and the beginning of this month.
Today, the Rakhine Army (AA) issued a statement asking for help from international and aid organizations for people of Rakhine State, who have been affected by cyclones and floods for a few months, there is an urgent need for rice, food, medicine, and drinking water. According to AA's statement., nearly 30,000 homes in seven townships were flooded, more than 70,000 acres of rice fields were destroyed, and six people were killed due to floods in Rakhine State.
Local farmers estimate that thousands of acres of rice may be damaged in Mon State, but the exact extent of the damage is not yet known. Farmers in Mon state said that there is a need to replant the rainfed paddy fields that were damaged by floods, and there are difficulties in replanting them because the damaged seedlings are around two months old.
Department of Agriculture under the Military Council said that farmers have been notified to provide some necessary assistance to the rainfed paddy fields that were submerged in the flood, but they do not yet know what kind of assistance will be provided.
