Members of the South Asian Journalists Association have resigned after the president of the South Asian Journalists Association visited Myanmar and met with the Ministers of the Military Council
India-based South Asia Foreign Correspondents' Association President Ivan Katnar Yang visited Nay Pyi Taw last week at the invitation of the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper, which is under the coup military council and met with four ministers of the military council.
As a result of this meeting, ten members of the South Asian Foreign Correspondents Association resigned.
The Economist, Washington Post, AFP, Financial Times, Radio France International, and ARD, among the heads of prominent news outlets, ten current members of the FCC, including the department heads, resigned after sending notices about Ivan Kat Nara Yang's trip to Myanmar.
The letter also stated that 22 foreign journalists, former members of the South Asian Foreign Correspondents Association, supported it.
One of the signatories, who did not want to be named, said that they only found out about Ivan Kat Narayan's trip to Myanmar when it was reported in The Global New Light of Myanmar, a newspaper controlled by the coup military council.
Ivanka Narayan said that he did not want to comment on the matter of the South Asian Foreign Correspondents' Association members resigning.
Ivan Kat Narayan said that he visited the Myanmar newspaper as a guest and was invited as a reporter to share information about the headline.
"Ambassadors from Myanmar to find out what is happening in Myanmar, which is preparing to hold an election. I met journalists and ministers," he said.
The South Asian Foreign Correspondents Association will hold an emergency meeting on June 13 to discuss the matter.
