Senior domestic politicians have sent a letter to the diplomatic talks on Myanmar’s issue held in Jakarta, Indonesia, calling for the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and urging dialogue to find a solution. The letter reportedly included the resolutions from internal political discussions within Myanmar.
"There are many former political prisoners and veteran politicians in attendance. This seminar is organized by those who arrange the event in Jakarta, with the aim to facilitate discussions to produce a certain attitude. The outcomes of this seminar will be conveyed to the Jakarta Forum," a source told RFA.
The letter stemmed from a political discussion held last September involving respected and experienced politicians inside Myanmar.
The dialogue in Jakarta on October 4-5, led by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, came ahead of a regional summit convening next week and was attended by top international diplomats concerned with Myanmar’s political situation.
Along with representatives from the United Nations, European Union, ASEAN, and Indonesia, the members of the anti-junta groups in Myanmar were present at the discussions.
The Jakarta dialogue was closed to the media, and no press coverage or photography was allowed, according to reports.
