RCSS Defends Against Military’s Attack in Mong Ping; Captures Weapons

On September 19, 2024, the Restoration Council of Shan State's (RCSS) forces successfully defended their base in Ying Kham village tract, Mong Ping Township, eastern Shan State, from an attack by over 100 military junta and militia forces, resulting in the capture of three weapons. The assault occurred around 11 a.m., lasting approximately one hour. Major Kham Sang, spokesperson for the RCSS/SSA, reported potential casualties on the military side.

“They retreated, and as we cleared the area, we recovered some weapons. The military council likely suffered casualties. We’re not certain about the exact number yet, but given the weapon seizures, they must have sustained injuries or deaths,” Major Kham Sang said.

RCSS/SSA members reportedly sustained no injuries during the confrontation. Although no fighting took place on the next day, September 20, military tensions persist, with RCSS/SSA reinforcing their positions.

“As we are conducting guerrilla warfare, we don’t build large camps. We defend using mobile guerrilla tactics,” Major Kham Sang added.

In late August, the junta’s National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) invited members of the 7 EAO Alliance to meet in Naypyidaw. Six groups attended, but the RCSS, which leads the 7 EAO Alliance, was absent.
