On September 18, Pope Francis urged people to pray for those facing various disasters, including wars and floods in Myanmar. "For the fallen heroes of Myanmar and Ukraine who are suffering from the devastating war, let's pray. May God give us the fortitude to overcome the war," the Pope prayed in Italian.
In addition to Myanmar and Ukraine, the Pope also prayed for those affected by floods in Central and Eastern Europe, specifically in Austria, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic. He led the prayers in St. Peter's Square, expressing solidarity with those impacted by these crises.
A total of 16 people have died due to the floods: 7 in Romania, 5 in Poland, 3 in the Czech Republic, and 1 in Austria.
Pope Francis frequently emphasizes the importance of not forgetting people in conflict zones and disaster-stricken areas around the world, urging continuous prayers and support for those in need.
