People are being threatened that they will get arrested if Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s picture is found.
It is known that a local resident of Yangon region was kept at the police station these days because he hung a picture of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in his house.
On the Irrawaddy side, military council soldiers and police are frequently checking the guest list these days and there are similar threats.
Residents say that if they see pictures of prominent politicians, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, hanging in their homes or stored on their phones, they will be threatened with arrest.
"We asked for the phone first. We looked for the phone and checked the politician's photos, likes and comments on Facebook. As soon as we see Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's picture on the phone, we will take action.
It can be seen in the indices of international research groups that Myanmar is in the worst state of freedom of speech since the military dictatorship.
As for Nu Yin, a famous artist who draws Aung San Suu Kyi's pictures... "I saw their action and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to continue painting. I had to flee to the border because it was no longer safe at home."
"They see democracy as an enemy. They don't know how to respect basic human rights. They don't have the truth."

After she was released from house arrest in 2010, photos of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi have been seen in many homes. After the National League for Democracy became a civilian government in 2015, people who respected her hung pictures of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her father, General Aung San, as treasures in their homes.
Currently, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for 19 alleged cases.
On June 19th, Aung San Suu Kyi will be 78 years old, and this birthday will also be spent in prison.
