Over 680 Civilians Killed in Karen and Southern Shan Regions Since Coup, PKPF Reports

More than 680 civilians have been killed in the Karen and Southern Shan regions since the military coup began over three years ago, according to a statement by the Progressive Karenni People's Force (PKPF). Among the casualties, 520 civilians were reportedly captured and killed by the terrorist army during clashes between the two sides.

The PKPF also reported that 163 civilians died while attempting to flee the conflict. The majority of deaths were caused by raids, airstrikes, and heavy weapons used by the terrorist army. Some of those who died while fleeing were struck by heavy weapons or lacked timely medical treatment due to insufficient supplies.

The PKPF statement noted that 655 members of the revolutionary forces, including the People's Defence Forces (PDF) and the Karenni Army (KA), were killed in the fighting. Additionally, the PKPF reported that 3,533 soldiers from the terrorist army have been killed in Karenni State during the more than three years since the coup began.
