NUG Prime Minister Orders Review of Township Tax Checkpoints

Union Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than addressed issues surrounding tax checkpoints on October 31 during the Interim Local Public Administration Development Central Committee meeting.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for public awareness about tax collection and expenditure: "As officials of the National Unity Government, it is necessary to educate the public so that they understand the process of tax collection and spending. Only then will it be widely known that the tax money they pay is not only supporting the entire revolutionary process, but also education, health, and humanitarian aid."

He further directed the committee to ensure that the number of tax checkpoints in townships is controlled and that they serve broader community safety purposes. "The committee also wants to make sure that there are no more than the necessary number of tax checkpoints in the townships, and that these checkpoints do not exist solely to collect taxes. They must enable safe movement for the people, prevent goods from terrorist groups from entering townships, and block support and reinforcements for those groups," he added.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Secretaries, and Deputy Secretaries.
