Today, October 30, 2024, at 1:30 PM ET, a discussion titled “The United Nations Day of Action for Myanmar” will be held in New York, featuring Union Minister for Human Rights U Aung Myo Min of the National Unity Government alongside Tom Andrews, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar. This event coincides with the UN General Assembly and aims to address human rights issues in Myanmar.
Minister U Aung Myo Min stated, “This session will provide a platform to present and discuss the current human rights conditions in Myanmar alongside Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Mr. Tom Andrews.”
Minister U Aung Myo Min will join as a key panelist, accompanied by notable figures such as Daw Wai Wai Nu, Executive Director of the Women’s Peace Network; Gum San Nsang, Former President of the Kachin Alliance; NUG Deputy Foreign Minister U Moe Zaw Oo; and Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the UN. Deputy Foreign Minister U Moe Zaw Oo and Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun are expected to deliver opening remarks, while Dr. Christina Fink will moderate the panel discussion on the ongoing crisis in Myanmar.
The event is co-sponsored by the Burma Advocacy Group, the Permanent Mission of Myanmar to the United Nations, the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Campaign for Rohingya, the US Campaign for Burma, and various other supporting organizations.
