On September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., U Aung Myo Min, Human Rights Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG), briefed diplomats at the United Nations building in Geneva on Myanmar's pressing human rights challenges and the widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi.
During the briefing, Minister U Aung Myo Min highlighted the urgent need for international cooperation to address the humanitarian crisis and ongoing emergency relief efforts. He noted that the NUG is collaborating with ethnic organizations to assist those affected by the floods and to enhance relief and emergency response initiatives. The minister emphasized the importance of delivering humanitarian aid through cross-border efforts to bypass the military junta, which has historically exploited international aid during disasters.
The minister reaffirmed the NUG's commitment to implementing the recommendations outlined in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) report, assuring the international community of the government's accountability in this effort.
The event, organized by the Luxembourg embassy, was attended by UN diplomats, officials from various UN agencies, and personnel from United Nations offices, who engaged in discussions regarding the situation in Myanmar.
