Minister U Yee Mon of the National Unity Government (NUG) expressed hope that China would adopt a practical approach towards the Myanmar issue. He highlighted that nearly all Chinese projects, including the oil and natural gas pipelines, have now reached territories under the control of the revolutionary forces.
Responding to a question from the Irrawaddy news agency on August 31 regarding China's concerns about its projects in areas controlled by the NUG, Minister U Yee Mon emphasized that the NUG has clearly communicated its policy on China. He stated that both the NUG and allied ethnic resistance groups have made China's interests and security concerns a priority. According to the NUG's guidance, the People's Defense Forces (PDF) on the ground have been instructed not to harm any international investments, including Chinese projects, and are committed to preserving them as much as possible.
He reiterated that the NUG hopes China will take a realistic approach in addressing the situation in Myanmar, given that most Chinese projects have come under the control of revolutionary forces. China has requested safety guarantees for its employees and projects, and while the Terrorist Military Council has promised to protect Chinese interests, the reality on the ground indicates that control has shifted largely to the revolutionary forces.
