Acting President Duwa Lashi La of the National Unity Government congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 U.S. election through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In his tweet, the Acting President expressed, “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on your election victory! We look forward to continuing the important and strong relationship with your return to leadership.”
The Acting President emphasized that the NUG aims to strengthen its ties with the U.S. under Trump’s leadership.
During President Joe Biden’s administration, the U.S. provided support for Myanmar’s people, the National Unity Government (NUG), NUCC, CRPH, CDM, and other allied organizations fighting against the military regime in pursuit of democracy, human rights, and justice via the Burma Act.
Analysts have commented that President Donald Trump, who served as the 45th President and has now been re-elected as the 47th, may have less interest in Myanmar due to his focus on U.S. domestic issues, according to analysts.
On November 6, Susan N. Stevenson, the head of the U.S. Embassy Rangoon in Myanmar, stated that regardless of who wins the election, the core policies of the U.S. are unlikely to change.
