Speaking at the International Democracy Day event organized by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), Duwa Lashi La accused Min Aung Hlaing and the military of focusing on bombing rather than rescuing those affected by recent floods.
The Rag storm has caused severe flooding in Mandalay Region, Shan State, Bago Region, Karenni State, Karen State, and Rakhine State. Duwa Lashi La highlighted that Myanmar's ethnic communities have long suffered from both conflict and natural disasters, exacerbated by the military's pursuit of power. He criticized the military's recent airstrikes in Nawnghkio, Lashio, and Myawaddy on September 13th and 14th, during a nationwide flood crisis.
The Acting President labeled the military dictatorship as the greatest obstacle to Myanmar's democratic rights and freedoms. He emphasized the need for prioritizing public interests and striving for full democracy, warning that without democratic elections, the emergence of a stable Union is unlikely. He asserted that the essence of democracy lies in representing and establishing a power base for the people, underscoring the importance of a government that serves the public's interests.
Duwa Lashi La also called for achieving comprehensive self-determination rights for all ethnic groups based on federal principles, stressing the responsibility of the National Unity Government and the CRPH to integrate federalism with democratic values. He concluded by stating the National Unity Consultative Council's crucial role in advancing this mission.
