More than 650 homes were burnt down in Kanbalu district within a month


Kanbalu Activists Group, Kanbalu district announced today on June 14th that in Sagaing region in May, 653 houses from 17 villages in Kanbalu Township and Kyaung Hla Township, a rural clinic and some schools were destroyed by fire.



It is said that 628 houses in 13 villages of Kanbalu Township, 2 classrooms and 25 houses in 4 villages of Kyaung Hla Township, a rural clinic and 3 rice warehouses were burned down as well.

Locals also said that in the same month, with the column and getting hit by a large weapon, a woman and two men died as a result of being arrested and killed.

On June 10th and 11th, two columns entered the villages of Bo Te Gone and Phel Gone in Kanbalu Township and burned down 48 houses and 15 rice barns.


According to a March 19 statement, as of 2023 from Data For Myanmar, an independent research group, 47,778 houses of civilians in Sagaing were destroyed by the military council army and subordinate groups during the two years of the military coup.


According to the latest report on June 13th of 2023 of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA)., 765,200 residents of Sagaing Region have fled their homes after the military dictatorship in 2021.
