Over 6 million children in Myanmar are displaced and struggling with limited access to health care and regular education, according to Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the United Nations. Speaking at the General Discussion on Social Development during the Third Committee of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on October 4, 2024, in New York City, he highlighted the dire situation facing these children.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has also reported that humanitarian aid efforts in Myanmar face significant challenges due to a lack of funding. The agency warns that the necessary resources for 2024 have not yet been secured.
