More than 100 women political prisoners in Daik-U Prison, located in Myanmar’s Bago Region, are reportedly suffering from skin diseases due to contaminated drinking water, according to the Women’s Political Prisoners Care Group.
The group told the BBC that the prisoners have been forced to use impure water, which appears yellow and is unfit for consumption or daily use. Ma Zu Zu Mayon, a spokesperson for the group, stated that the prisoners are not allowed to bathe sufficiently due to the poor water quality.
In addition to the water issues, overcrowding has worsened the conditions. According to Ma Zu Zu Mayon, 80 prisoners are being held in a room designed to accommodate only 50 people, exacerbating the lack of water and contributing to the worsening skin conditions.
