More than 1,400 Kayah refugees have received some aid from ASEAN.
More than 1,400 Karenni refugees have received some aid from the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Center) for the first time through the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO).
PNLO General Secretary, Colonel Khun Aung Mann said that the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Center) provided aid to 1,450 refugees in Kayah State through the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PLNO).
After the military coup and due to the fighting between the military council, the Karenni Army (KA), and the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) forces, more than 8,000 refugees from Kayah State have taken shelter in the PNLO-controlled areas of Hsihseng Township and Mawkmai Township in southern Shan State. On July 16th, PNLO said that they provided 400 bags of rice and necessities to 1,450 refugees sheltering in Yayphyu Village, Hsihseng Township
.
On May 7, AHA Center joined with the PNLO to help the refugees for the first time, but the plan was canceled when they were ambushed with small arms on the way to Hsihseng Township. About this shooting, the military council and the armed forces exchanged accusations.
PNLO Colonel Khun Aung Mann said that he visited for the second time in July and will continue to help the remaining refugees.
