The Kokang Army has released 331 family members, including 45 prisoners of war, who were captured by the Northeast Command Headquarters in Lashio, Northern Shan State, Myanmar, for the fourth time.
The Kokang Army, in conjunction with joint forces, successfully occupied the Northeast Command Headquarters in Lashio, Northern Shan State. This marks the first time in the 70-year history of the coup d'état army that a regional command headquarters has been completely captured by an Ethnic Armed Organization (EAO). During the occupation, more than 4,000 soldiers and their family members surrendered and were detained. Among them, 331 family members, including 45 seriously injured prisoners of war, were released for the fourth time by the Kokang Army (MNDAA) and PDF joint forces.
Reports indicate that a total of 331 prisoners of war and their family members were released in cooperation with the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP) on August 11. The 45 wounded prisoners of war received good medical treatment before being released. Previously, the MNDAA and allied forces released 360 prisoners of war and their family members on August 6, 445 on August 7, and 338 on August 9. In total, 1,474 individuals have been released.
