Residents report that the military junta conducted airstrikes on Laukkai, a town under the control of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in northern Shan State, on the early morning of October 19.
The airstrike occurred at around 1:30 a.m. when a fighter jet dropped bombs on Laukkai, marking the first airstrikes in the area since the MNDAA’s capture of Lashio in August.
“Since Lashio was captured, there hadn’t been any bombings in Laukkai,” a local resident noted while confirming the airstrike. He added, “One large bomb did not detonate, but another did, falling near the training ground. The aircraft was flying low while dropping the bombs.”
The Kokang Army MNDAA announced that they conducted an airstrike on Laukkai, which is under their control, around 3 a.m. today, stating that there were no civilian casualties resulting from the attack.
The MNDAA also reported recent airstrikes by the junta in townships it controls, including an attack on a hydroelectric power plant in Lashio township on October 14 and another on a facility in Namsan township on October 16.
