Military Junta Bombs Lashio, Northern Shan State’s Capital, on August 30

On August 30, at around 8 p.m., the military junta forces bombed Lashio, the capital of northern Shan State. The town has been under the control of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), which is managing local administration.

Residents report that between 8 and 9 p.m. on August 30, the military junta forces conducted aerial bombings. Witnesses in the city have stated that bombs hit near No. 8 Basic Education High School (B.E.H.S.) in Ward 9 and caused damage to nearby homes. One unexploded bomb remains inside the school, but there have been no reports of injuries.

Residents of Lashio, particularly in Wards 9 and 10, have been advised by the civilian rescue organization FYV, based in Lashio, to remain cautious due to the ongoing bombings. According to FYV, two bombs exploded near the Lashio regional office and the airport, but there were no casualties.

A local woman expressed her distress, saying, "We have been hearing the sound of aircraft and bombs since late in the evening. It hasn’t been long since we returned to Lashio, and this situation is extremely distressing. The people are suffering from all sides. We urge everyone to stop this immediately."

The pro-military Telegram channel also reported that the military bombed Lashio from the air on the night of August 30. However, there has been no official statement from the military junta regarding the situation in Lashio.
