Military Council returned nearly thirty Bangladesh citizens arrested by immigration law.
Residents said that on October 3, 29 Bangladesh who entered Myanmar illegally were arrested and jailed by the military council under the immigration law and were returned to Bangladesh. All of them, who were detained in the Buthidaung, Rakhine State, and Hpa-An, Kayin State prisons were handed over by the border guard police of the two countries when they met at the No. 1 gate of Maungdaw border trade station.
A person who helped in this case said that those arrested in 2021 as well as those arrested last month were included. "Among them are Bangladesh-Rakhine people. I asked the Rakhine people, and they said that some of them came here for business and were arrested when they were returning in boats loaded with timber." He said that on October 3, the Myanmar-Bangladesh border guards met in Maungdaw, and the consulate general of Bangladesh based in Sittwe was also present. Reportedly, the Bangladesh citizens were returned after the meeting.
The military council is working to readmit people who fled to Bangladesh due to the conflicts that occurred in Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas in northern Rakhine State in 2017. On the other hand, people who enter Myanmar illegally are often arrested and imprisoned.
