Maung Shwe Lay naval base in Thandwe, Rakhine State, western Myanmar, has become a critical battleground for both the coup army and the Arakan Army (AA)

AA spokesman Khaing Thukha stated that the Arakan Army is currently attacking the last remaining Maung Shwe Lay naval base in Thandwe city. Reports indicate that the AA has been engaged in this assault since the third week of July.


Following their successful capture of the 566th Light Infantry Battalion and the 55th Infantry Battalion in Thandwe Township, the AA has continued its offensive on the Maung Shwe Lay naval base.


This naval base serves as the Navy's primary diving and communication station. In 2023, Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the military, visited the base, The base is considered crucial for both the coup army and the AA.


The coup army, which has already abandoned the entire township including the hotel zones and the airport in Thandwe city, is now fiercely defending the last remaining Maung Shwe Lay naval base.
