Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan stated to reporters at an ASEAN meeting in Laos that the ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus concerning Myanmar is not solely the stance of a single member country but rather a collective agreement accepted by the ASEAN bloc, emphasizing the need for compliance and action.
Hasan pointed out the need for an inclusive process that involves all relevant parties in Myanmar. He also mentioned that Myanmar, as an ASEAN member, must comply with the Five-Point Consensus and other ASEAN Charter commitments and to cooperate in order to put an end to the ongoing violence in the country.
This dialogue will involve the current ASEAN Troika Plus, which includes the current, previous, and upcoming ASEAN chairs, along with other countries. Regarding whether to invite representatives from the National Unity Government (NUG), the ASEAN Secretary-General did not provide a clear answer to the reporters.
