“The situation in the southern front shows that our cooperation with the PDFs remains steady, with no setbacks or obstacles between us. We’re continually engaging and pressuring and attacking enemy soldiers on the front lines without pause. There are rumors circulating, suggesting we’re pushing out the PDFs, but that’s not the case. These are based on a military strategy,” said Secretary-General Padoh Saw Taw Nee, Spokesperson of the Karen National Union (KNU) on November 5. He made these remarks during a joint press conference organized by the National Unity Government (NUG), Karen National Union (KNU), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), and Chin National Front (CNF).
He added, “The military is waging an all-out ‘total war’ on the civilian population, striking without regard. Across Myanmar, 71% of township areas are heavily impacted by armed conflict. The military council is the one who is ignoring ASEAN’s call for de-escalation, and we urge ASEAN and the international community to halt the supply of aviation fuel, heavy weaponry, and ammunition to Myanmar, as these fuel the conflict and facilitate war crimes and crimes against humanity. Since the coup, there have been 5,034 airstrikes, all these violences committed by the terrorist military."
The KNU Secretary General emphasized that the NUG, KNU, KNPP, and CNF remain committed to ending military dictatorship, achieving accountability for war crimes and violence committed by the military, and establishing a federal democratic union, in line with their shared stance.
