The central headquarters of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the armed wing of the Karen National Union (KNU), located in Brigade 7 territory of Karen State, was bombed the morning of October 22 morning by kamikaze drones launched by the junta, according to a military source.
At around 10:00 a.m., the junta deployed large kamikaze drones to bomb the Thai Bay Hta base, where the KNLA Central Command Headquarters is located. One individual has been injured and is in critical condition, while several buildings were destroyed. Reports of additional drones and aircraft approaching have led to the temporary closure of schools and the suspension of some office operations in the area.
“This is the first time such an attack has occurred in Brigade 7. The situation is becoming increasingly tense,” said the military source. Since the military coup nearly four years ago, fighting has intensified in KNU-controlled territories, but this is the first time.
Following the capture of the junta’s strategic hill-based artillery outpost at Swe Taw Kone in Lay Kay Kaw area, south of Myawaddy, by KNLA-led resistance forces on October 18, military tensions have escalated between the junta and the KNLA.
