Junta Troops Burn Down 16 Villages in Sagaing Region, Forcing Over 4,000 to Flee

From July 26 to August 8, nearly two weeks, 160 individuals from the 361st Light Infantry Battalion based in Kantbalu, along with the Pyusaw Htee group led by the Robe-wearing Extremist Wasawa, attacked 16 villages in the southern part of Kantbalu Township, a stronghold of the revolution in upper Myanmar. During these attacks, more than 600 houses were burned down.

On July 25, the coup forces and Pyusaw Htee groups began their offensive from Nyaung Zin village and Tharakkong village, burning down two villages per day in Kantbalu Township. The residents of these villages have been evading the conflict for more than two weeks and are in dire straits. As it is the rainy season, they urgently need tarpaulins, food, and medicines. Emergency supplies are needed for more than 4,000 people fleeing the conflict. The neighboring villages are also unable to provide support due to the military presence.

Reports indicate that the coup army's Kantbalu-based 361st Light Infantry Battalion and the Pyusaw Htee group have deployed over 100 personnel in Mingone village, around 60 in Bo Te Gone village, and 137 in Ywama village in Kantbalu Township. The coup forces have frequently bombarded villages in Upper Myanmar's revolutionary Sagaing Region, destroying them by burning them to the ground.

Due to the drought and the ongoing conflict, the local population is unable to farm properly and is facing numerous difficulties this year. Currently, more than 4,000 people fleeing the violence in Kantbalu urgently need assistance.
