Junta Bombs Lashio Hours After Inviting Resistance Organizations to Political Solutions; 2 Dead, 5 Injured

On the evening of September 26, the junta issued a statement inviting ethnic armed organizations and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) to abandon armed conflict and seek political solutions through electoral channels. However, before eight hours had passed, the junta dropped three bombs on Lashio, a town under the control of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in northern Shan State.

At around 3 a.m. on September 27, the junta dropped bombs in Lashio’s Ward 1, near Kyauktaung and the central market. Two civilians were killed, while 5 others were injured, including 1 person in critical condition and 1 pregnant woman, who were taken to the hospital for treatment. Local sources reported that the fire at the market was brought under control in a timely manner.
