Former Malaysian minister Saifudin proposes ASEAN to cooperate with the NUG on Myanmar issue.

Former Malaysian minister Saifudin Abdullah proposes ASEAN to cooperate with the National Unity Government on Myanmar issue.

Malaysia's former foreign minister, Saifuddin Abdullah, proposed ASEAN, engage and cooperate with The National Unity Government (NUG) and the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) to resolve the Myanmar issue.

Saifudin Abdullah said that "Currently, ASEAN is facing Myanmar issues, we should not be trapped under the rules of non-interference in the internal affairs of a country, ASEAN should work together with the NUG, NUCC, and other relevant organizations to openly solve the Myanmar issue." at the 2023 ASEAN Sustainable Development Workshop jointly organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Program and Malaysia's The Jeffrey Cheah Education Foundation on July 22.

It is a challenge for all 10 ASEAN countries to participate in Myanmar issues. Saifudin Abdullah said that only three countries, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, had announced that they are having a relationship with the NUG, NUCC or officially supporting these groups.
