Dr. Yu Yu May, the wife of the late Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, expressed her confidence in the success of Myanmarโ€™s pro-democracy revolution. Speaking at the one-month commemoration of her husbandโ€™s passing, held on November 18 in the United States, she told the media that if everyone keeps united like now, the revolutionary journey that people of Myanmar desire will undoubtedly succeed.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Zaw Myint Maungโ€™s family members, representatives of the National Unity Government (NUG), members of the National League for Democracy (NLD), and former political prisoners.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, who dedicated nearly his entire life to politics, passed away in Mandalayโ€™s Obo Prison at the age of 73. He endured harsh conditions, including inadequate healthcare, and passed without having the chance to reunite with his family.

As the Vice Chairperson (2) of the NLD, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung served as Chief Minister of Mandalay Region from 2016 to 2020. Following the military coup in 2021, he was sentenced to 29 years in prison.

Prior to this, he had spent 19 years as a political prisoner under the former military regime, steadfastly opposing authoritarian rule and maintaining his commitment to democratic principles without bowing to the juntaโ€™s oppressive rule. His resilience and commitment to justice made him a symbol of steadfast resistance against military authoritarianism.
