EU Welcomes UN Human Rights Report on Myanmar

The European Union (EU) has welcomed the latest UN Human Rights Report, which documents extensive human rights violations committed by Myanmar's military. The EU condemned the abuses and violations of international law, urging accountability for those responsible.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the EU emphasized the importance of the UN investigation team in Myanmar, citing their critical role in addressing the country's ongoing crisis. The EU reiterated findings from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which detail forced recruitment of soldiers, arbitrary arrests, sexual violence, torture, and widespread killings across Myanmar.

According to the report, 1,853 people have died in custody, including 88 children and 125 women, though the actual number could be higher, an EU official stated. The EU also highlighted the continued suffering of Rohingya and other minority groups amid the conflict, noting that at least 5,350 civilians have been killed by military violence.

Additionally, the report underscores that 3.3 million people have been displaced by the conflict, and over half of Myanmar's population now lives below the poverty line.
