𝗔𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗸𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲

𝘙𝘢𝘬𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 16, 2024

The Arakan Army (AA) has successfully seized control of the 5th Military Operation Command (MOC-5) center, a major military base in the Rakhine State’s Toungup on the evening of December 14, subsequently taking control of the entire township. With this latest victory, the AA now controls 12 out of 17 townships in Rakhine State. The news has been confirmed by Rakhine-based media outlets.

Speaking to 𝘈𝘳𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘢𝘺 𝘕𝘦𝘸𝘴 (𝘈𝘉𝘕) on December 15, AA spokesperson U Khine Thuka stated:

“𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘖𝘊-5 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘱 𝘺𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 4:10 𝘗𝘔. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘫𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘥. 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘱 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱.”

The AA currently controls the towns of Myebon, Minbya, Markus-U, Kyauktaw, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, Buthidaung, Ramree, Thandwe, Maungdaw, and Toungup in Rakhine State, as well as Paletwa Township in Chin State.

Meanwhile, heavy clashes continue near Ann Township, where the junta’s Western Regional Command is headquartered, and Gwa Township, as the AA intensifies.
