The Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that it has established nearly 6,000 community-based interim online schools and opened 4,515 ground-based schools in liberated ethnic areas, including Kachin, Karen, Karenni, Chin, and Mon States, as well as Ta'ang, Lahu, and Pa-O regions. This announcement was made during a press conference on August 14.

Additionally, education boards have been set up in 305 townships nationwide. Over 700,000 students are attending these interim online schools, and in 2023, 56,000 students, including 92 members of the People's Defence Forces (PDF), passed the basic education completion exams.

Additionally, interim teacher training universities have been established in liberated areas, providing training to more than 4,000 teachers, including those pursuing diploma courses. For higher education, the NUG has partnered with universities in the United States and Thailand, offering courses through the Myanmar Education System (MES) platform, which is also accessible to those serving in the PDF.

To build a federal education system aligned with its goals, the NUG's Ministry of Education is collaborating closely with ethnic organisations and aims to expand its partnerships with those ethnic organisations it has yet to connect with.
