Since the morning of June 2, fighting between the Military Council and the KNLA/PDF joint forces has been going on in the town of Kyainseikgyi in Karen State, and civilians have been injured and killed, as reported by locals and military sources.
During the battle, the military council fired and attacked from the air. A resident of Kyainseikgyi said that there were heavy weapons fired and at least 8 civilians were injured in the fighting between the two sides.
"It was the night of June 1st. The army fired heavy weapons. At around 4:00 a.m., we heard the sound of fighting. The sounds of heavy and small weapons hit the neighborhoods. At around 8:00 a.m., the planes fired at the coastal neighborhoods. They bombed. There were civilians, priests, and children who died. There were about 10 people who were hit or killed. Now I can hear gunshots. I don't dare to go out. As soon as I go out, the army shoots me," said a resident of Kyainseikgyi.
Telegram channels reporting the news of the Military Council are reporting that civilians, including monks, were killed when the KNU/PDF joint forces attacked the battalion headquarters and security forces in Kyainseikgyi Township.
