On Saturday, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar issued a statement responding to allegations that China has been interfering in Myanmar’s internal affairs.
The statement, delivered by a spokesperson, sought to clarify China’s position amidst growing criticisms. “In response to unfounded claims by certain media and individuals that China interferes in Myanmar’s internal matters, we would like to reiterate our stance,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson reaffirmed China's position, emphasizing that China and Myanmar are “traditional friendly neighbors” and that China supports Myanmar in maintaining its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. China upholds a policy of non-interference in Myanmar’s internal matters and supports the Myanmar-led peace process. The statement condemned chaos and conflict in Myanmar, external interference, and any actions or statements aimed at creating discord between China and Myanmar or making baseless accusations against China.
The spokesperson expressed hope that all parties in Myanmar would achieve a ceasefire quickly, resolve disputes peacefully, and work to de-escalate the situation, including in northern Myanmar. China committed to continuing its constructive role in these efforts.
The statement follows increased criticism from the Myanmar public and revolutionary groups regarding a threatening letter sent by Chinese authorities in Ruili (Shwe Li) to northern Myanmar resistance forces, demanding an immediate halt to hostilities. To date, there has been no clarification from Chinese authorities or Ruili officials on whether the letter was genuine or a forgery.
