Last week, South Koreaโ€™s Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun was arrested by judicial authorities for recommending martial law to President Yoon Suk Yeol.

According to local reports, Kim Yong Hyun voluntarily appeared at the South Korean Attorney Generalโ€™s Office in Seoul on December 8. His cell phone was confiscated, and he was subsequently taken into custody. Judicial authorities confirmed that following an investigation, the defense minister was sent to a prison in Seoul. Police also conducted raids on his office and residence, local news outlets reported.

The arrest came a day after South Koreaโ€™s opposition party failed to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol. During the impeachment process, most members of the ruling party went on strike, abstaining from the vote.
