The Northeastern Regional Military Headquarters (Ya Ma Kha), based in Lashio, the capital of Myanmar's northern Shan State, was captured by the allied forces led by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) today, August 3rd, marking the first time a regional military command headquarters has been captured by ethnic resistance organizations and the first regional military command headquarters captured following the February 2021 coup d'état.
After a fierce battle between MNDAA-allied forces and the military junta forces, some junta soldiers surrendered, while others fled through the various paths, as the area of the Northeastern Regional Military Headquarters is large. Currently, the MNDAA and its allied forces have surrounded the headquarters. All the military junta forces inside have fled, and the allied forces have occupied the area and are conducting area clearance operations.
CDM Captain Seagull confirmed that, at the moment, all military junta soldiers in the Northeastern Regional Military Headquarters area have fled. He noted that, although it is unclear whether they have surrendered or not, no military junta forces are left inside the headquarters. "The coup military members are less likely to surrender and are more likely to adopt a defensive position. I have confirmed that the coup military has vacated the entire Northeastern Regional Military Headquarters area," Captain Seagull said.
