๐๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ด, ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ณ 12, 2024 โ Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein, a doctor-turned-singer, songwriter, and artist who actively opposes Myanmarโs military dictatorship, joined human rights defenders from Yemen, Sudan, and Syria at a Human Rights Day ceremony hosted by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Living in exile since the 2021 military coup in Myanmar, she was invited to the event to shed light on her countryโs ongoing crisis.
On social media, she reflected: โYesterday, December 10, on Human Rights Day, I had the opportunity to return to Paris. This time, I was invited by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to speak at the International Human Rights Day ceremony. I also had the privilege of holding private discussions with Mr. Volker Tรผrk and Madame Isabelle Rome.โ
During her meeting with the UN High Commissioner, she highlighted the plight of millions of children in Myanmarโs conflict zones who have gone over three years without access to essential vaccinations. Mr. Tรผrk reaffirmed his commitment to increasing international focus on Myanmarโs challenges.
Phyu Phyu Kyaw Theinโs speech, delivered in French, emphasized the sacrifices made by countless individuals fighting for democracy, freedom, and justice in Myanmar: โThere are thousands of people who sacrifice their lives, their careers, their futures, and their families to fight for justice, freedom, and democracy,โ she said.
Prominent figures such as Sophie Giscard dโEstaing, Deputy Head of the Womenโs Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), also participated and delivered remarks.โฉ
