The Attorney General of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, told VOA that efforts to secure an arrest warrant for Senior General Min Aung Hlaing are critical to addressing years of impunity for crimes committed by Myanmarโ€™s military.

โ€œI see this as very important for the people of Myanmar, including the Rohingya, who are seeking justice and accountability for these crimes,โ€ Khan stated. โ€œThe ICC Prosecutorโ€™s Office has been working on this since 2019. This is our effort to issue the first arrest warrant in Southeast Asia. Regarding the situation in Myanmar and Bangladesh, itโ€™s the first time such a warrant is being pursued.โ€

Khan made these remarks in an exclusive interview with VOA. He added that applications for arrest warrants targeting other key military leaders in Myanmar will follow soon.
