U Htin Linn Aung, Union Minister of the Ministry of Communications, Information, and Technology for the National Unity Government (NUG), shared on social media that the ministry has successfully created a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to assist the public in bypassing the internet restrictions imposed by the military junta.

The Minister explained that the junta has been actively repressing the public by blocking press freedom and limiting internet access. It has also restricted VPNs and social media platforms to prevent open communication. However, However, to demonstrate that technology is resilient and to aid the revolution, the Ministryโ€™s IT department developed a VPN. This VPN has been tested by armed groups in the northern regions, who successfully bypassed the juntaโ€™s restrictions and continued their work for the NUG government without issues.

The VPN is still in its initial testing phase with 1,000 users already on board, successfully bypassing restrictions from all service providers. The NUG plans to expand access to this VPN, ensuring that both the public and revolutionary forces can use it. Along with the VPN, the IT department is also working on additional projects to further support the cause, as shared by Minister U Htin Lin Aung on his social media account.
