Kachin State, December 4, 2024

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces have launched simultaneous attacks on the towns of Bhamo and Mansi in Kachin State since the morning of December 4, 2024, according to local and KIA sources.

In Bhamo, intense battles are unfolding, with the KIA reportedly taking control of several military bases, including the Myanmar juntaโ€™s 47th Infantry Battalion. The fighting has intensified in the region between Bhamo and Momauk for over two months. The KIAโ€™s offensive on Bhamo marks a significant escalation, as the city is the second capital of Kachin State.

In Mansi, KIA and allied forces have reportedly launched attacks on the regimeโ€™s military camps at the 319th and 601st Light Infantry Battalions, with local residents fleeing the violence.

KIA spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu confirmed the fighting but noted that details about the situation, including the reports of KIA forces capturing the 47th Infantry Battalion, have not yet been verified. He stated that while battles are occurring in Bhamo, further specifics regarding locations and developments have yet to be confirmed.

Since late September, the KIA and allied forces have intensified operations in Kachin Special Region 1, capturing cities like Chipwi, Tsawlaw, Pang War, and Kanpaikti, successfully taking control of the entire Kachin Special Region 1 and dissolving the designation of the region on November 20, 2024.

As of now, the KIA and allied forces have taken control of 13 towns in Kachin State and northern Shan State during the operations that started at the beginning of the year.โฉ
