The military leader who previously claimed to have improved the economy since seizing power has now acknowledged a slowdown in Myanmarโ€™s economic growth.

In a speech delivered on December 3rd at a meeting of the State Administration Council, the junta chief admitted that the countryโ€™s economic situation has been deteriorating. This marks the first time the military regime has openly acknowledged the economic crisis it has caused.

Since the military coup, Myanmar's economy has been in a freefall, with skyrocketing fuel and basic goods prices, a depreciating currency, and a significant decline in foreign investment, imports, and exports. These economic woes have been widely documented by economists.โฉ
