Religious organisations in Myanmar have urged the National Unity Government (NUG) to take practical responsibility for fostering unity and forming strategic alliances based on policies rather than individuals, focussing on winning the ongoing fighting. This appeal was made by various groups, including the Spring Revolution Interfaith Network (SRIN), Spring Revolution Sangha Network (SRSN), Sangha Union (Mandalay), Spring Revolution Myanmar Muslim Network (SRMMN), and Myanmar Hindu Union (MHU), on the 36th anniversary of the 8888 Democracy Movement, which fell on August 8.
These organisations have also called for the NUG to quickly develop an interim constitution, which is crucial for the success of the Spring Revolution and public aspirations.
Additionally, they have demanded the military junta immediately release President U Win Myint, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, those sentenced to death during the Spring Revolution, and other political prisoners who have been unjustly detained.
The religious organisations called on the NUG, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the National League for Democracy (NLD), and other political parties, Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs), and allied revolutionary forces to accelerate their efforts in the fight with greater unity.
They also appeal to the international community, including the United Nations, to recognise the National Unity Government, which is overwhelming supported by the public, and to provide not only moral support but also tangible assistance as soon as possible.
