ASEAN ministers call for regional unity in solving the Myanmar issue.
The ASEAN foreign ministers have called for regional unity in solving the Myanmar issue, which is intensifying the conflict.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, the current ASEAN rotating chairman, said that they discussed the implementation of the 5 ASEAN consensus on the Myanmar issue, and all emphasized the issue of unity.
He said that it is important for ASEAN to be united when there are differences of opinion among ASEAN member countries regarding the Myanmar issue.
He said it would be impossible to start the dialogue and send aid without stopping the violence in Myanmar. Retno Marsudi said that ASEAN should continue to focus on this common peace agreement and any other efforts must support these five peace principles.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Summit was held yesterday in Jakarta, Indonesia, on July 11.
